London Bach Society: Bach at Langstone, 6 June 2015

The London Bach Society (LBS) is the UK's premier Bach Society, founded in 1946. For more information about it, please click here

As Chairman of the LBS Council I am delighted to invite you to a special recital here on 6 June by Steven Devine (harpsichord) and Kate Semmens (soprano). They will perform arias, keyboard suites and miniatures from the Anna Magdalena Notebooks. Steven played Bach's Goldberg Variations in the Wax Chandlers Hall during the LBS Bachfest in November 2011, soon after his recording of them on Chandos Chaconne was released to critical acclaim. On 6 June he will use his new single manual Vater harpsichord. Programme details are given here.

The evening starts at 6.00pm with drinks and canapes served in the front court if the weather is fine, otherwise in the drawing-room and parlour; continues with the recital; and concludes with a two-course buffet supper, including a vegetarian option, provided by a top-notch local caterer. Tickets (at cost price for a full house of 80) are £40 per person.

If you wish to attend, please e-mail me at and make your payment to the Langstone events account: name MR R JONES, sort code 30-80-55, account number 70478860, reference LBS recital; or send me a cheque (made out to Mr R Jones) at Langstone Court, Llangarron, Ross on Wye, HR9 6NR. I will then add your name to the list of attendees and write to confirm that you are on the list. Please let me know if you need wheelchair access

Directions to Langstone are given here.

The LBS launched a new Bach Friends scheme in March 2013 in order to expand our support base. Details can be seen on the LBS website at Information about Bach Friends will also be available on 6 June. Please join us and support the leading Bach society in the UK. You will not be disappointed by the quality of what the LBS offers.

This will, I hope, be the first of many musical evenings at Langstone. They will not all necessarily follow the same pattern. But I look forward to seeing you here on 6 June as we launch this new venture.
